2010
So here we are in 2010 and we have expanded our customer base even further both in metro area's and regional Australia. Our goal is to make sure that everyone, doesn't matter where you live can expect the same great price. It has been a busy start to the year with more people than ever making use of the site. It's a far cry from where we started in 2007 when 10 orders per week was great... now it's pallets of orders almost daily as we continue to offer the best products available.
MAR09 – SEP09
“Flat Out” – that’s the response from Ben when he was recently asked about the past few months. Between moving the office, building display centre and growing our customer base, things have been busy. The display pic’s will take a little while as the photographer is also busy at the moment – it’s great to see things have picked up because if we are pushing orders out the doors then everyone is building, installing or renovating. Tough times get easier when everyone just gets on with it and that’s what has been going on here.
On the new stuff topic; Australec have released smoke alarms to the market and we are proud to have heaps in stock ready to go.
FEB09

Temporary Site Boards – Helping Storm victims
In the rush to rebuild after serious storms around the country; many builders have opted to use the DNN Temporary Site Distribution Boxes instead of using potentially damaged and dangerous power from adjoining properties.
“There’s so much goin on here with the clean up and it only takes one person to not watch what their doing on the bobcat and – boom ya gone”
While rooves go back on, structural damage is repaired and while the wiring is being checked and if need be repaired people are taking the safe options for the few days or even weeks while the work is carried out. With the threat of more storms in SE QLD and Northern NSW we are committed to being able to dispatch these units to location in 72 hours or less to these storm prone area’s.
New look home page and more direct navigation.
You may have noticed a change in the home page; it’s now easier to find the type of product you want even quicker. New customers to the site purchased an average of 17 items from 6 different categories in less than 4 minutes yesterday – They had never been to the site before and had discovered it on Google. Some of you suggested last newsletter that the navigation around the site could be better and more direct.
So as a team we sat down with the least net savvy in the team and got them to help us make it even easier to get to the products you want with minimal searching. The results of this are on the home page right now. There will be even more changes for the better. -Top-

Project Services – Total project life cycle support for holiday accommodation complex.
Port Macquarie on the NSW holiday coast is an incredibly popular holiday destination for many, beaches, cafes and a relaxing way of life is why people keep coming back.
One luxury hotel apartment complex has been enjoying on going support from our project services team for quite some time. With the rigours of use in a commercial environment Australec switchgear has been apart of the install since the beginning of the decade.
electricalwholesales.com.au has taken over the support role for this complex and the electrical fittings lifecycle. The biggest advantage for the complex and its owners is the lowered maintenance costs.
Electrical switchgear in these environments is subject to much higher use than you would normally have in a domestic situation. Because of Australec switchgears modular design for light switches and power points the cost of maintaining safe and serviceable electrical outlets and switches have been cut by more than half.
For example instead of replacing whole light switches where only one may be damaged, just the damaged switch is replaced. If scratches or other damage starts to appear on a face plate then only a new face plate is required. Replacement parts are available at a moments notice so there is little if any down time. Parts are also priced reasonably so there is little reason not to keep some items on hand.
Quick, reliable, easy to install and keeps the cost of project lifecycle to a minimum. For project support, from design through to install and beyond contact our Enterprise – Project services team today for more info. -Top-

Price increases for raw materials.
Almost everything at the moment has or is going to have some sort of price increase. At the moment we have managed to resist any price changes however we have been warned that it may change. So for the time being our prices will remain unchanged, but with metal and plastics prices on the march north we are unsure for how long.
One thing that a lot of electrical contractors have mentioned to us
“Why is your stuff so cheap?”
There are a couple of reasons our prices are more reasonable than others.
- Firstly we are a privately owned business – there are no share holders or board of directors driving up prices, cutting staff and staff wages or reducing quality to increase profitability.
- We don’t run gimmick promotions, really who are they kidding the cost of these promotions is built in to the prices of the products sold.
- Electrical supplies are not made of gold, just the right materials to ensure that they meet Australian Standards so why do other wholesalers want to charge like a wounded bull?
Bottom line we charge the right price, not some over inflated price driven by shareholders, board members, big international companies or “The Drought”
Our question to contractors who think they are paying too much "Why do you keep paying high prices?" - Remember they will only charge what you're willing to pay.
It’s been flat out in recent times
Some of the items going out the door without name dropping –
# Power Rails and Data points to server farms and an Internet site group
# House lots to more owner builders
# Supply direct to site for more Building Companies
# Items for national Generation and portable power solution providers
# MORE Sparkies from 5 states are now enjoying our “Trade Pricing” and now making more money.
# Sample packs requested by at least a dozen architects and designers.
We are working with designers and manufacturers of many products that require electrical supplies and producing some winning results for our customers.
If you’re a fan of the outdoors
According to the boss man here @ electricalwholesales.com.au Ben, “you have to get your hands on one of these – a Drifta camp kitchen.”
After 4 days in the bush recently the whole camping trip became over shadowed by the talk of Drifta camp kitchens. Here is the address if you want to have a look for yourself and don’t forget to mention who sent you!!!! -Top-

Products out perform all targets.
Our commitment to deliver a better customer experience has always been our biggest priority. We work continually to improve the site, security and useability. The promotions and marketing teams are always cooking up something and the shipping crews never stop until the orders are out the door.
It’s a well oiled machine but without the right products to sell, we would have gone bust ages ago. Poor product performance and quality can either make or break an on line business, so we would like to announce a fantastic 12 month figure.
Our product return rate (due to product failure or manufacture fault) for the
Year 07 – 08 is less the 0.5%
So if you were wondering about the quality or standards of Australec Switchgear that’s the proof. The products that did go wrong were replaced within 48 hours of contacting us. Were only happy if you are.
Figure based on 12 month sales from May 07 to May 08 and covered all Australec Switchgear products sold through electricalwholesales.com.au during that period.

Non-compliant electrical product counterfeiting
By: Paul Stathis, Editor www.electricalsolutions.net.au
The entire Australian electrical industry should be involved in the fight against the importation of sub-standard, non-compliant electrical product, often referred to as 'counterfeiting', says major electrical equipment manufacturer Schneider Electric. With a substantial financial and human resource investment into the Australian electrical industry, Schneider is proactive in helping to maintain the safety of the Australian public and electrical personnel as well as the industry's commercial stability.
Multiple risks
It is obvious to imagine the impact of fake products on all market factors in terms of credibility, reliability and image. But the major risk remains undeniably quality. Indeed, as copies do not comply with international standards and bypass quality management controls, they expose everybody to serious threats:
- Health and safety hazards
- Installation damages or loss
- No services, no warranty, no insurance
Moreover, all businesses can face civil and criminal liability risks because we are all responsible for what we buy and sell.
Safety cannot be imitated
In the electrical field, quality is not a luxury. In an installation, each electrical component has a vital function. When a component must operate for protection, control or supervision, it has to work immediately and with 100% reliability. Copies are generally made of cheap and unsafe material such as flammable plastics and poorly plated conductors. The companies who manufacture the copies are renowned for reducing production costs by not respecting quality and safety standards constraints that are routinely found in quality electrical fittings. They also generally imitate the external aspects of a quality product but do not have the know-how for the operating technology.
The fight against counterfeiting is one of the strategic axes of Schneider Electric, which has dedicated teams around the world whose mission is to enforce this strategic orientation to local operations. Every endeavour is made to prevent, root out and eliminate counterfeits by taking the following actions:
- Protection of products by registering trademarks, patents and designs.
- Market monitoring to detect and track the copies.
- Enforcement of strict policy with supply partners.
- Cooperation with relevant government authorities, industry associations and professional organisations to develop and enforce laws, regulations and standards.
- Enforcement of industrial property rights by taking legal action.
- Implementation of communication campaigns into industry to raise awareness.
- Development of product authentication systems.
Economic impact
Counterfeit copiers do not pay product development or safety compliance costs, proper wages or taxes, which in turn leads to:
- Reduced profit for legitimate companies, lower wages, lost jobs and less market growth.
- Deterioration of revenues for governments, unemployment costs, hence less funds for other social priorities or developments.
Everyone in the electrical industry is an essential player in this fight. All can easily adopt a responsible attitude by using some simple tips. These include:
- Avoiding products with no brand.
- Purchasing from authorised distributors or manufacturers.
- Watching for products with unusual trademarks.
- Buying only products with their original packaging and being cautious of packaging with blurred marking.
- Checking to ensure only certified electrical products are acquired and installed.
- Beware of prices that are 'too good to be true'.

Real world wholesalers starting to feel the pinch.
Electricians in country and remote area’s are getting a better deal. Like other industries which have seen competition enter their relevant markets with great products and lower prices from online competitors, electricians are the big winners.
This is similar to the airline industry where the online front is the main front and other non essential components are removed to offer better prices. Now other industries are following suit. Consumers are the big winners in this battle for market share; people are demanding better prices, great service and quality.
We get emails almost daily from customers who are no longer happy to pay huge prices or be lured with the hope of winning prizes in national comps. Customers are becoming aware that these are built into the price of the products they use. The question from a lot of people is “why should I pay more for that stuff, when I can use other alternatives and pocket the rest?” We have listened, that’s why you will always pay less and get great service without the extra bits. -Top-
